National Guard

The District Of Columbia National Guard, is one component of The Army (which consists of the Active Army, the Army National Guard, and the Army Reserve). The D.C. National Guard has a unique Dual Mission that serves both State and Federal governments. Each state, territory, including the District of Columbia has its own National Guard. D.C. National Guard Citizen-Soldiers serve their country, state, and community on a part-time basis. The D.C. National Guard is the primary reserve military force, partly maintained by the states, but also available for federal use. The Guard answers the call, whether it’s here at home, or abroad training just one weekend per month, and one two-week period each year. During local emergencies, D.C. National Guard units assist residents endangered by storms, floods, fires and other disasters, as well as, major local events.
